Chiang Mai: Ethical Ele-fun

March 9, 2016

Elephant Nature Park are three words you need to remember when venturing to Chiang Mai in search of a elephant experience.

You can get some lovely one on one time elephants like I did with this lovely girl (see above).
Elephant Nature Park doesn’t support the riding or mistreatment of elephants and actually has several programmes which are helping support their ethos all over Thailand.

I did the hope programme which was fairly new at the time. But along with rescuing elephants, it provides work for Mahouts small communities (often refugees) who are willing to learn their practices of  love and positive reinforcement with the elephants.

It’s super rewarding and still a very intimate experience. We had around 5 elephants for a group of 9, so lots of opportunity to really get to know them and their unique personalities!

There are opportunities to do day trips, stay overnight, a whole week, or even 3 months to train as a Mahout.

PRICE

The Hope programme I mentioned: 6,000 THB

Prices range from 2,500-13,000THB
