What to do

Ixelles, Brussels: filigranes corner bookshop

March 25, 2016

This is a beautiful bookstore which tempts you to browse, even if like me, you can’t necessarily read in French.

I walked past it once thinking, there’s no point going in (because I wouldn’t be able to understand, therefore buy any books) but then I noticed they were advertising an Emily Bronte reading weekend (in English) in their window, so I went into enquire.

The ladies working there were friendly, helpful and passionate about books. I asked one of them why they had little notes stuck onto the books and she told me “when we read a book and love it, we write what we thought on the book for others to read” – there were hundreds scattered over the store…

VISITING

If you are staying nearby to this store, then I would recommend popping in. The lady also explained they had 5 stores around Brussels, but all different sizes and concepts. This one for example was on the corner. Others, like just ‘filigranes’ are huge at 2600m2.

Visit filigranes corner’s Facebook page to see more of what they have to offer, or other cool literary themed events.
